Media Literacy for a Fractured Public Square

CRIBSRAC

A Framework for Understanding How Narratives Shape Perception

CRIBSRAC is the signature analytical framework developed by the Social Institute for Media Literacy (SIML).

It provides a practical method for examining how information influences perception, belief, behavior, and public understanding.

Rather than focusing only on whether a message is accurate or inaccurate, CRIBSRAC helps learners understand how meaning is constructed, how narratives become persuasive, and how ideas travel through society.

The framework can be applied to headlines, news stories, social media posts, political communication, advertising, institutional messaging, educational content, and cultural narratives.

At its core, CRIBSRAC asks a simple question:

How does a message shape the way people understand reality?
